Return to medieval times at Italian festival

Giostra del Saraceni - The Jousting of the Saracens, sees everyone around Arezzo entering the historic Piazza San Francesco for this yearly jousting tournament.

Activities begin at 11.30am and lets visitors experience costumed knights on battle horses, trumpeters, flag bearers and people in medieval dress.

Taking place on September 5, visitors watch as people compete for the Golden Lance, trying to score points on a shield by a rotating puppet called the Saracen.

The area around is also fun with outdoor celebrations in the local streets and squares and everyone invited to take part in various activities.

Keen knights and medieval princesses can all watch the event for free.
