all year round. The Majority of towns and villages have outdoor or indoor swimming
pools filled with water from natural hot springs. The temperature of the water
in the pools is around 28 degrees Celsius. In some places there is also saunas,
a Jacuzzi, solariums and hot pots with temperatures ranging from 35 to 45 degrees
Celsius. For something a little more relaxing try Bird watching as there as
so many large colonies and breeding areas that are found at numerous places
throughout the country, including Lake Myvatn and Latrabjarg, which is largest
bird cliff in the world.
Reykjavik
sees the major nesting grounds for the Arctic Tern and the Westman Islands houses
the largest Puffin colonies in Iceland. Another not to be missed attraction
is Whale watching which is available from various locations in Iceland ' the
season runs from May through September, and cruises depart on an old fashioned
oaken boat and on shore there is a whale exhibition centre dedicated to all
the species of whale they sport in the bay. One of Iceland’s greatest
natural attractions is The Geyser that erupts blasting a spectacular jet of
super heated water and steam into the air as high as 59 to 81 metres. The rest
of the park sits on top of a vast boiling cauldron, belching sulphurous mud
pots, hissing steam vents, warm streams, hot and cold springs, and primitive
plants can all be found here.
For a family day out head to the Skaftafell, Iceland's second largest National
Park. The park offers attractions and wonderful scenery. The natural variety
of the park is seen in the Vast glaciers, mountain streams, blue glacial lakes
with icebergs, snow capped mountain peaks, jagged rocks, canyons, wild flowering
valleys, rare species of birds and plants makes this a perfect setting for hiking
and trekking.
