Get into the carnival
spirit at Trinidad festival
Taking place on
August 1, the Caribbean island celebrates Emancipation Day, transforming the
streets of Port of Spain into a colourful fiesta.
The national holiday
sees thousands of Afro-Trinidadians dressed in quality and intricately designed
African costume parade through the streets throughout the area.
The event is held
to celebrate the Trinidadians freedom from their former slave ancestors over
a century ago.
Reportedly the
celebrations are the biggest in the Caribbean and have featured important figures
such as Winnie Mandela.
