Southern California Low Desert
When
travelling from Los Angeles, the first of the two distinguishing deserts you
will come across is the Low Desert, or the Colorado Desert as it is more commonly
known. This is located in the south and stretches right down to the border of
Mexico then east on to Arizona. Along your Low Desert journey you will encounter

the best place on earth to begin your Low Desert journey and will set you in

Palm Springs is home to the largest gay community in America, having recently
over taken Key West in Florida. There is an estimated 40% of the community which
is gay, so therefore a perfect rest stop and party town for gay’s travelling
throughout America. This can offer a wonderful reprieve from the somewhat conservative
views to be found in other US cities. The Arenas Road is the place to be for
the best in entertainment which caters for gays.
Palm Springs is one giant playground for the rich and perfectly maintained golf
courses, luxurious condominiums and leisure pursuits being the order of the
day, to really gain the benefits of Palm Springs, it is advisable to splash
the cash here. A weekend excursion can set you back quite a bit of money, so
for those who are restricted to a budget, a one or two night stay is still feasible
without breaking the bank. Or even a day trip can offer a great taste of the
charms Palm Springs has to offer.
To the west of
Palm Springs visitors often visit the San Jacinto Mountain for the best in Hiking
and riding. The canyons and mountains make for an excellent adventure in the
beautiful landscape as you trek through some of the most stunning scenery in
the world. Palm Canyon, Murray Canyon and Andres Canyon are some of the most
excellent hiking and riding areas near Palm Springs and are jointly known as
the Indian Canyons.
Or for a breathtaking morning venture head for the Smoke Tree Stables where
horse riding offers visitors a wonderful opportunity to see the dramatic landscape
at it’s best. A two hour ride will cost just $30 and is worth every penny.
Coachella Valley
is known for having fun and vibrant towns throughout the region. If Palm Springs
isn’t your scene, then head for one of the quieter yet just as glamorous
towns such as cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Indian Wells or La Quinta.
Each of which offer first rate accommodation, entertainment, bars, restaurants
and fun. It doesn’t matter which town you find yourself in, you are sure
to have a superb time and get the opportunity to explore the nearby landscape.
