California Accommodation Choices
Accommodation
in California is much the same as that to be found in the rest of the US. With
standards generally high, and clean comfortable rooms the norm. You will find
your fare share of diverse hotels, Motels, Inns, B&B, private lodges and
Hostels throughout California or for those seeking the great outdoors, camping
is also another very popular option.
Larger cities tend
to have hotels as the standard form of accommodation, ,indeed in some cities
this is the only form of accommodation provided. A hotel room can cost you anything
from £20 to upwards of £300. It all depends on where and when you
travel and what needs you have. For those travelling on a budget, you can easily
find yourself one of the cheaper hotel chains such as Days Inn or Motel 6 which
can offer cheap comfortable rooms.
Or for a mid priced
hotel, look for recognised chains such as Best Western, Travelodge or Ramada.
All of these reputable hotel chains can offer quality accommodation at very
reasonable rates. You can expect to pay around £40 for a room.
One factor to take
into consideration when booking your hotel is the fact that many hotels rates
are based by the season rather than applying a standard rate. For example, a
hotel in a mountain resort will charge reduced rates out of season and double
and in some cases triple their rates during the more popular months. Also remember
to book in advance when at all possible. This will secure you a room during
the high season.
Hotels tend to
charge by the room as opposed to per person and tend to prefer the cost to be
paid in advance. Certainly, you will be asked to pay at least your initial night
upon arrival, or give the hotel your credit card details and sign for the charge
when you leave. Hotels will also accept payment by cash or travellers cheque.
Motels are the
best accommodation choice for those who are travelling throughout California.
Motels are normally located near the main highways and road junctions in the
country areas. This makes stopping off mid way through a journey very easy and
convenient. Motels work much in the same way as that of a hotel and the room
will be paid for upon arrival. Rooms will generally cost you around £35
per night.
Camping in California
doesn’t come much better than camping under the stars at one of the national
parks. Most parks and reserves will have excellent camping facilities making
your experience that much more enjoyable. Again,, it is always advisable to
book well in advance to secure a camping spot, as some times the more popular
places get snatched up quickly.
The main advantage to camping is of course the cost. There is no other form
of secure accommodation that is cheaper, plus you are rewarded with often being
in the heart of some of California’s most breathtaking landscapes. Camping
will cost in the region of around £10 per night.
