Flower power at Brussels event

Taking place every two years the Brussels Flower Carpet runs from August 13-14.

Held in the Grand Place, the Belgians cover the square in a layer of flowers.

Fountains within the carpet help to keep the 800,000 fresh begonias watered and the layer often includes scenes from Belgian folklore and myth.

In addition visitors can see a sound and light show on the opening night as well as a fireworks display.
